Flagstaff Pulliam
Airport Expands Boarding
Area
The
city of Flagstaff is considering acceptance of a $1.2
million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration
to expand the secure boarding area at Flagstaff Pulliam
Airport. A bigger boarding area would allow two flights
to board passengers simultaneously. Additionally, the
city wants to increase capacity to at least accommodate
the 76-seat jets being flown in daily by Horizon
Air.
The Arizona Daily Sun
reports that approximately $1 million of the grant is
designated to build a 2,900 square-foot addition to
Flagstaff Pulliam Airport's existing secure boarding
area. Expansion of the boarding area allows airport
officials to pre-board Horizon Air and Mesa Air
passengers simultaneously. Currently, the two airlines
have to stagger pre-boarding to compensate for the
current size of the holding area. A portion of the
grant, approximately $258,394, will also be used for
final funding for a $18.9 million runway extension
project.
Construction of the
expanded secure boarding area is scheduled to be
completed December
2008.
